Equipment Care Tips for Skaters and Parents

ere is some pro tips to care for your skinsuit and skates rental:

To properly maintain BLADES:
• Be sure to fully dry the blades after each use to prevent rust from developing.
• Store the blades in a cotton skate cover (soft guards), between practices, not in plastic hard skate guards where condensation will accumulate on the blades and cause them to rust as well as the tension of the hard guards will cause on the bending of your blades.
• Use the plastic hard skate guard when going on and off the ice.
• As for sharpening: for the Learn-to-speed-skate group, we recommend no more than every three weeks max. Our Advanced skaters are doing sharpening clinics regularly. These sharpening clinic are usually on Saturdays at around 9:30 before the Learn-to-speed-skate ice time. Like & Follow www.facebook.com/NunavutSpeedSkatingAssociation for the upcoming sharpening session. *Refrain to use any hand tools or power tools that you have at home as well as hockey sharpening machine: speed skating sharpening is done by hand, with specific diamond stones and jig.*
• Yes, your blades are not centered and it’s on purpose! Please do not attempt to re-align them!

To properly maintain cut-proof SKINSUIT:
• Only wash every month or if required.
• Keep it way from Velcro!
• Wash instructions:
    -Gentle cycle only
    -Regular soap
    -Wash alone
    -Zip up suit
    -Turn suit inside out
    -Use fabric bag if possible
    -No fabric softener
• Hang to dry ONLY. Suits cannot go in the dryer!
